It’s all about Banff!

Banff is a renowned outdoor resort with natural beauty and a fun friendly atmosphere. Whether you are discovering Banff in the summer or winter there is so much to see and do.

We have put together some of our top tips of what to do and see on your visit to Banff - from fun, family events and interesting museums, to sitting back and enjoying your beautiful surroundings.

Be outdoors: Summertime in Banff:

  • Canoe on Moraine Lake: Moraine Lake is a glacier-fed lake and one of the jewels in Banff National Park’s crown. It’s a great family or group activity for a peaceful afternoon in this beautiful spot.
  • Visit the Buffalo Nations Museum: we highly recommend visiting the Buffalo Nations Luxton Museum to learn about the fascinating history of the First Nations people of the Northern Plains and Canadian Rockies. See costumes, decorated teepees, hunting equipment, arts and items from daily life.
  • A ride on the Banff Gondola will give you a stunning view of six mountain ranges and with several observation decks there is so much to take in – this is definitely one to add to your list.
  • A visit to Lake Louise is definitely a must on your trip to Banff, whether is it to take a stroll along the beautiful shoreline or to jump in a raft and have a wild water adventure!
  • Take a dip in the Banff Hot Springs: these are the highest springs in Canada and after a long day of adventure they are the perfect spot to relax and unwind, it’s a great late night activity and perfect for some star-gazing.
  • Take in a Banff sunrise or sunset: we can’t express enough how stunning Banff is, with its picture-perfect setting. Our top recommendation would be to take in this majestic scenery by experiencing a Banff sunrise or sunset in the midst of the Canadian Rockies.

Let it snow! Winter in Banff:

  • Visit the Ice Magic Festival: the centrepiece of the Snow Days celebrations (a month-long celebration of winter in Banff National Park), the Ice Magic Festival showcases the skills of some of the world’s most talented ice carvers as they carve Banff ice into stunning sculptures. It’s a great day out! There’s also a weekend when you can have a go yourself - the ‘Little Chippers’ weekend, for you and your kids to have a go at ice carving - you may have undiscovered skills.
  • Après time! With a vibrant and fun atmosphere Banff is a great place to be for any après ski fans. There are loads of bars, taverns and restaurants to choose from if you want a warming drink or delicious food after a day on the slopes. One of our recommendations would have to be Mad Trappers Saloon – this lively bar offers some great nightlife!
  • Dogsledding is a wonderful experience during winter in Banff, snuggled under a blanket you can whoosh through beautiful forests and the mountain valleys.
  • The various rivers and lakes in Banff National Park freeze during the winter months and create some of the most fabulous natural ice skating rinks in the world; there’s a great range of natural and artificial rinks to choose from, but our recommendation is definitely The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, which has been voted as one of the top most beautiful ice skating rinks in the world.
