Visit Nova Scotia on Holiday

Nova Scotia, on Canada's Eastern coast, is a great destination to include on any holiday to Canada. One of Canada's four Maritime Provinces, this beautiful island is surrounded almost completely by water, making it ideal for strolls along the beach and water-based activities such as kayaking and paddle boarding.

The continental climate means the summer months are warm so you can enjoy spending plenty of time outdoors. Driving through the province is optional as there are so many other ways to get around - by bike, on foot, or even by boat and canoe, with stops to see the local sights and culture.

Nova Scotia has an incredible 7,600km of coastline so there is plenty of water to enjoy. Try tidal bore rafting in the beautiful Bay of Fundy, between Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, kayaking in Keji National Park, or even mud sliding along the Shubencadie River bed! Animal-lovers should look out for seals, porpoises, seabirds and at least 15 different species of whales in the water.

Nova Scotia is full of Canadian history and this is apparent in the beautiful lighthouses dotted around the island. Take a trip to visit Peggy's Cove and see the lighthouse built in 1868, which is the most photographed in Canada. Also discover two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, as well as museums and other historic sites in Nova Scotia.

Nova Scotia is one of Canada’s best foodie haunts. The fresh sea food is legendary - sample local lobster or the famous Digby scallops and mussels from the Mahone Bay. Also home to 11 wineries, you can taste the flavours of Halifax in the local vintage, or in a glass of traditional ice wine. Sipped whilst looking across the water, this is a really relaxing way to end your day.

The province's capital, Halifax, is the largest city in Atlantic Canada. A vibrant and cultural city, this is one of the country's best kept secrets. History buffs should visit Pier 21 to learn about Canada's interesting immigration history and Halifax Farmer's Market is great for foodies.

Only a 6-hour flight from the UK to Canada, you'll be feeling the rhythm of the ocean and fresh salt air in your lungs in no time on an exciting holiday to Nova Scotia!
