Visit the Canadian Rockies on Holiday
The Canadian Rockies are one of the world’s most picturesque and impressive mountain ranges. Surrounded by thrashing rivers and calm emerald lakes, there’s a multitude of activities you can indulge in, from climbing and hiking to canoeing and horse riding, or just sitting back and enjoying the scenery whoosh past from the comfort of the legendary Rocky Mountaineer train journey.
The Rockies lay claim to the bustling mountain towns of Banff, Lake Louise and Jasper. In winter, the Canadian Rockies are buzzing with skiers and snowboarders, taking advantage of the incredible snow and runs.
Banff is known for its friendly atmosphere and stunning surroundings, plus access to some of the best Skiing in Canada during the season. Due to its proximity to the ‘Big3’ ski resorts: Mount Norquay, Sunshine Village and Lake Louise, Banff is a fantastic option for winter sports holidays with amazing snowfall and plenty of buzzing après ski bars and restaurants.
Banff is also lovely in summertime, with lots of outdoor activities close to the town, and some of the best walking trails in the Rockies. Don’t forget to take a dip in the town’s famous hot springs - great for relaxing after an action-packed day.
Lake Louise is another spectacular destination to include on your holiday to the Canadian Rockies. The lake itself is bright emerald due to the limestone rock flour deposits from the glaciers at the head of the valley. Canoe or hike around the lake for spectacular views, and try going early in the morning with your camera so you can capture the reflection of the mountains on the still water.
If stunning vistas are your thing, Jasper National Park is for you. When exploring the park take a brave step onto the Glacier Skywalk; the views are incredible, but not for those with vertigo as all that separates you from a 918 foot drop is glass!
For those who prefer to take in scenery from the comfort of your own vehicle on a fly-drive holiday to Canada, the Icefields Parkway is an incredible drive through the Rockies. Prepare to feel small as you drive through the sheer vastness of the region with scenic views of ancient glaciers, beautiful forests and jagged peaks.
