Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. Each of these unique provinces features its own natural wonders and together they make the holiday of a lifetime.
New Brunswick has miles upon miles of white sandy beaches with some of the warmest water north of Virginia.
Nova Scotia offers 7,600 kilometres of stunning coast, and boasts an astonishing variety of activities for every taste. Wherever you venture, you will never be more than 35 minutes from the sea.
Newfoundland and Labrador is one of the world's most pristine and aweinspiring destinations. It is relatively unexplored, so you can be one of the first intrepid visitors to savour some of Newfoundland's 17,000 kilometres of spectacular coastal views and majestic landscapes.
Prince Edward Island is blessed with miles of uninterrupted sandy shores that are rich in nature and wildlife. The Island also hosts a wealth of outdoor pursuits, including some of North America's best golf courses.
Atlantic Canada is totally unspoiled and peaceful. We suggest that you start at Nova Scotia, where your flight will arrive, and spend time travelling around each province, enjoying a selection of the numerous sea excursions, nature parks and other activities.
There are many recommended self-drive trails that will help you make the most of your time – why not hire a motorhome and have the freedom of the road as well as having your own home from home on the road.
In Atlantic Canada the people are friendly, the atmosphere tranquil, yet with an abundance of lively colourful festivals, you are promised a trip with the memories of a lifetime. We fly into Halifax from London Gatwick and Manchester.
What's on in Atlantic Canada?
Eat at... The Rossmount Inn.
Simply the best cuisine in the Maritimes, if you
don’t stay at the Inn, make sure you come for dinner. Swiss chef/owner, Chris
cooks up a storm every day with locally grown and sourced food. Quaint, cosy
bar to lounge in, intimate restaurant to dine and served by dedicated wife Graciella.
(4599 Route 127, St Andrews, NB www.rossmountinn.com)
Shop at... small boutiques along Queen Street, Fredericton, such as Bejewel,
where Trudy Gallagher and her talented team design and make rings and
necklaces, earrings and bracelets in the shop. See why it is rated as one of
Canada’s best jewellery stores, and ask about other highly-talented Maritime
craftsmen and women.
Hike... along New Brunswick’s 25-mile long Fundy Trail Footpath to experience
one of North America’s last coastal wilderness areas. Clamber down to coves
reached only by foot or by boat: you will be alone on a pristine beach.
Visit... any of the living history villages where the past comes to life with costumed
interpreters, crafts and music: Sherbrooke Village, Nova Scotia, where the clocks
stopped 150 years ago; Port Royal on Nova Scotia’s west coast, where the French
first settled in 1605; and the awesome Louisbourg fortress, overlooking the ocean
and guarding Nova Scotia’s Cape Breton Island. Near Fredericton, historic houses
were moved to Kings Landing Historical Settlement, where New Brunswick’s past
comes alive with costumed interpreters.
Have fun... on any of the grand, fine sandy beaches, or take photos of finbacks
and humpbacks on a whale watching trip out of Cape Breton. Or, get really close
to millions of puffins and awesome icebergs off St John’s, Newfoundland.
