The Ocean is a night train that runs six times a week
(six times each way) between Montréal and Halifax.
You'll cover hundreds of kilometres while sleeping soundly and you'll wake up in a completely different part of Canada!

The Ocean leaves Montréal in the evening and travels through the small villages on the south shore of the St. Lawrence before entering the Matapédia Valley. By very early morning, you'll see Chaleur Bay. From there, The Ocean heads south across New Brunswick, where it stops in Moncton before noon, and then continues on to Nova Scotia to arrive at Halifax around mid-afternoon. In the other direction, the Ocean leaves Halifax in the afternoon to reach Montréal the next morning.

The Ocean is the ideal choice for visiting Québec and the Atlantic region. It is also very handy for short journeys in Nova Scotia and in New Brunswick.

Seniors (60+): 10% off Sleeper Touring Class in Cabins for Two with/without showers in Peak Season. No discounts available in Economy Class or Sleeper in Off Peak Season.

Children (2-11): 50% off Economy Class and 25% off Sleeper or Sleeper Touring class at any time. Off season: Must be purchased 15 days prior to departure.

Economy Class

In Economy class on the Ocean you can travel between Montréal and Halifax at very reasonable prices. Sitting in your comfortable seat, you can stretch out your legs, lean back into the headrest and admire the scenery rolling by the window.

Meals can be purchased on board where Via Rail serves light meals, refreshments and treats, which you can enjoy at one of the tables, or at your seat. At night, a service attendant will offer you a pillow and blanket.

Sleeper Touring Class

The Sleeper Touring Class (operates from 14 June - 14 October) includes meals and allows you to enjoy a unique martime learning experience with the onboard staff explaining some of the history and background to the area through which the train passes.

Choose a standard bedroom with wash basin and WC, or upgrade to a deluxe bedroom with shower facilities. Single occupancy of a bedroom incurs a small supplement. Sleeper Touring Class offers a reclining seat and blankets and pillows on overnight journeys.
