The Ocean is a night train that runs six times a week (six times each way) between Montréal and Halifax. You'll cover hundreds of kilometres while sleeping soundly and you'll wake up in a completely different part of Canada!
The Ocean leaves Montréal in the evening and travels through the small villages on the south shore of the St. Lawrence before entering the Matapédia Valley. By very early morning, you'll see Chaleur Bay. From there, The Ocean heads south across New Brunswick, where it stops in Moncton before noon, and then continues on to Nova Scotia to arrive at Halifax around mid-afternoon. In the other direction, the Ocean leaves Halifax in the afternoon to reach Montréal the next morning.
The Ocean is the ideal choice for visiting Québec and the Atlantic region. It is also very handy for short journeys in Nova Scotia and in New Brunswick.

Comfort Class

In Comfort class on the Ocean you can travel between Montréal and Halifax at very reasonable prices. Sitting in your comfortable seat, you can stretch out your legs, lean back into the headrest and admire the scenery rolling by the window. |
Meals can be purchased on board where Via Rail serves light meals, refreshments and treats, which you can enjoy at one of the tables, or at your seat. At night, a service attendant will offer you a pillow and blanket.
Comfort Sleeper Class
Comfort sleeper class provides you with a comfortable bed in your choice of private or semi-private sleeping accommodations (available year round).
Easterly Class
The Easterly class offers you much more than superior comfort: a maritime learning experience complete with presentations affording cultural and historical insights. Along with onboard accommodations, the new Easterly class includes exclusive access to the lounges and panoramic section of the luxurious Park car with its domed observatory, a light breakfast and three-course dinner, as well as all the special touches of first class travel. The Easterly class service is offered on the Ocean from May 3 to October 31, 2008.
