Itinerary

Day 1 Vancouver

Your Northern lights adventure begins as you land in Vancouver and make your way independently to your chosen hotel. Even in the colder months there are still plenty see and do throughout the city.

Day 2 Vancouver – Whitehorse

Savour the winter white landscape of Western Canada as you fly north from Vancouver to Whitehorse, the capital of the Yukon. On arrival you will be greeted by a local representative who will welcome you to the Yukon and transfer you to your hotel. Having checked in you will receive an orientation meeting describing what to expect during your stay. The rest of the day is yours until your first evening viewing of the Aurora Borealis. The Aurora Borealis, commonly known as the Northern Lights, is a spectacle of magnetic and electrical charges in the air, colouring the sky a multitude of majestic hues. Tonight is your first chance to view this spectacular show. Departing the hotel at approx. 21:30pm in groups, you will be taken to a prime viewing area and treated to snacks and hot drinks during your viewing. Contemplate the sublime beauty of this fascinating array of blues, reds, greens and violets in this idyllic setting as you relax in a cosy heated cabin or walled tent. Return to the hotel at approximately 01:30am

Day 3 Whitehorse

The next morning you are treated to a tour of the scenic city of Whitehorse, a former gold rush settlement set against a stunning backdrop of mountains. Discover the highlights of this town such as Main Street, the Train Depot of White Pass, Log Skyscraper, Log Church, the Sternwheeler SS Klondike, fish ladders and Schwatka Lake. Each day you are free to relax in the warm comfort of the hotel, or book an optional activity such as dog sledding, ice fishing, flightseeing or snowshoeing. You will have an opportunity to view the Aurora Borealis every evening of your stay. While waiting for the lights to appear, guests are invited to sit at a roaring bonfire, roast marshmallows, have tea and hot chocolate, chat with local guides, try out snow shoeing, tobogganing on a small hill.

Day 4 Whitehorse

A change of pace today as you are free to explore further or maybe take an optional excursion. Why not head for the Yukon Wildlife Preserve, where you’ll have the opportunity to view and photograph wildlife in its natural habitat. Dall sheep, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, mule deer, wapiti (elk), woodland caribou, wood bison, musk-ox, moose and even lynx, usually up close! To cap of a great day, you could also travel to the nearby Takhini Hot Springs. The outdoor hot springs pool provides a warm sanctuary amid the cold weather and is a must-do activity while visiting Whitehorse! (Visit to the Yukon Wildlife Preserve and Takhini Hot Springs is included for arrivals Oct 1 - Nov 30 only)

Day 5 Whitehorse – Vancouver

Today your Yukon experience comes to an end. You have time today to find those last Yukon souvenirs before you transfer back to the airport for your early evening flight back to Vancouver.

Day 6 Vancouver

A full day to explore but don’t stay in the city, time to get up into the surrounding country side, time to head for Grouse mountain. Only a short drive or bus ride from the centre of Vancouver, Grouse mountain provides fabulous panoramic views of the city, Stanley park and the ocean. Rent a set of snowshoes and tramp your way around the trails that are clearly sign posted and when you have worked up an appetite, sit down for a great meal in one of the restaurants on the mountain.

Day 7 Vancouver

All good things must come to an end, you have a few final hours to enjoy Vancouver before heading to the airport for your flight home.
