Sweet, savoury, stuffed, or doused in syrup, Canada is famous for its fluffy pancakes—and there are plenty of ways to enjoy them here. Given the country’s reputation for these buttermilk treats, the choice of where to dine isn’t an easy one.
So, with a little help from our lovely customers, we’ve put together a list of the best pancake spots for you to get your fill, just in time for Shrove Tuesday! From breakfast to dessert and everything in between, be sure to add these recommendations to your list once you’ve booked your cheap flights to Canada.
Eggsmart
Offering a delicious twist on the classic breakfast, brunch or lunch, Eggsmart invites diners to eat in or take out at over 45 locations across Canada. Feeling hungry? The Eggsmart Big Breakfast is a popular choice, serving up a full English with a side of buttermilk pancakes. Those of you with a sweet tooth might opt for a pancake stack. We recommend the ‘Chunky Monkey’—layers of heavenly Nutella and banana slices, garnished with cream cheese drizzle and chocolate chips. Ann Costello loves Eggsmart so much, she visited locations in both Banff and Toronto. Thanks, Ann!
The Original Pancake House
Ronald Mason visited The Original Pancake House in Winnipeg for what he calls ‘amazing pancakes’! The menu serves up a combination of classic dishes and new favourites, all made with quality ingredients, which support local suppliers like Winnipeg Old Country Sausage, Notre Dame Creamery, and Countryside Farms. The most popular item is the Giant Apple Pancake—oven baked with freshly sliced apples and imported Saigon cinnamon glaze. Delicious!
Sunset Grill
For the best breakfast in Ontario, Heather Moore recommends you head to Sunset Grill. Armed with the basic philosophy that Fresh is Tastiest™, all menu items are cooked fresh and nothing is ever deep-fried. Start the day with French toast, buttermilk pancakes and malted waffles, all served with pancake syrup, butter and your choice of tasty add-ons. What’s not to love?
Crêpe Montagne
Crêpe Montagne was founded by Laurence and Michel Gagno, who started out selling crêpes at the Upper Village Farmer’s Market in Whistler, before setting up their authentic French Crêperie in 1997. Andy Bowes visited during his time in Whistler and claims these are the best pancakes he’s ever eaten! Enjoy a range of sweet and fruit varieties or a stack of pancakes for a memorable breakfast.
Tooloulous
The pancakes served at Tooloulous in Banff are held in high regard by Trish Gramauskas. Despite being best-known for its Louisiana Creole cuisine, the breakfast menu here is packed full of delicious options, including Peach & Pecan Pancakes, Raspberry Ripple French Toast and Pain Perdu—thick slices of cinnamon raisin French toast with whipped cream sprinkled with powdered sugar and served with syrup.
Cora
Founded in 1987 in Montréal’s Saint-Laurent district by Cora Mussely Tsouflidou, Cora is a family-owned restaurant specialising in breakfast foods. Today, you’ll find over 130 franchised restaurants in various locations across Canada, serving up everything from savoury crêpes and fresh fruit to delicious pancakes to suit every palette. Beth Haydon loves the fresh fruit and great veggie options here. Thanks for the recommendation, Beth!
