Day 1 – Yellowknife
After arriving in Yellowknife, take the complimentary shuttle from airport to Capital Suites Yellowknife for a three-night stay. The remainder of the day is at leisure to familiarize yourself with your hotel and its amenities. Overnight in Yellowknife.
Day 2 – Yellowknife
Today a city tour of Yellowknife tells the history of how a small mining and trapping settlement, only to wane for decades until the diamond mines revived the city’s fortunes. A guide will highlight the best the city has to offer, including a visit to the fascinating Northern Frontier Visitors Centre. Overnight in Yellowknife.
Day 3 – Yellowknife
You travel along the main highway out of Yellowknife today to the habitat of the wood bison. A naturalist guide provides a commentary describing the nature and actions of these unique northern animals. The tour is complemented by a delicious outdoor gourmet lunch. Return to Yellowknife where the rest of the day is at leisure. Overnight in Yellowknife. Lunch included.
Day 4 – Yellowknife to Fort Simpson
You begin your adventure with a flight to the remote former fur trading outpost of Fort Simpson. Landing on the Mackenzie River near the settlement, you soon take off again on a half-day excursion over Nahanni National Park by floatplane. Landing on the South Nahanni River, you will be amazed by the mists rising above the 92m drop of Virginia Falls as it cascades into Painted Canyon. Towers of rock, nimble Dall sheep and placid Little Doctor Lake are just a few of the amazing sights you will see before returning to Fort Simpson. Overnight in Fort Simpson at a bed & breakfast. Lunch and dinner included.
Day 5 – Fort Simpson to Yellowknife
Departing Fort Simpson by plane, you arrive back in Yellowknife for a final night in this quintessential northern frontier city. Overnight in Yellowknife. Breakfast included.
Day 6 – Yellowknife - End of Tour
This is your day of departure as you check out of your hotel and transfer by complimentary shuttle to Yellowknife airport.
