Itinerary

Day 1 Ottawa

Cross the north Atlantic on the start of your Artic expedition, landing in Ottawa, Canada’s capital, for one night. Time for some rest and relaxation as it is an early start in the morning.

Day 2 Ottawa – Iqaluit

Departing Ottawa International Airport at approximately 09:00 you fly north to Iqaluit, arriving early in the afternoon where you are met by your Arctic tour leader at the airport. After getting checked into your hotel room it is time to have a look around, begin with a city tour of Iqaluit. This dynamic city offers an array of delights for all travellers, including cultural and historical attractions, fun and exciting activities for all ages.

Day 3 Iqaluit

After a hearty breakfast, time to dress up warm and head out into the artic landscape. Spend the day exploring by snowmobile on a guided tour. The route depends on local conditions and the skill level of the participants. The day could include a trip to a polynya, where the water never freezes and wildlife come to feed and rest. As you zip along on your snowmobile you will ride over sea ice and the frozen tundra surrounding Iqaluit.

Day 4 Iqaluit

Time to put all of the ice and snow to good use with a half-day of igloo building, a real hands-on introduction to the culture of the Inuit. Hear and learn about many of the Northern survival techniques still in use today that were invented by the indigenous people of the Far North. Weather permitting the rest of the day is spent on an enjoyable half-day hike to one of three stunningly beautiful locations: Sylvia Grinnell River, Apex trail or Burton River.

Day 5 Iqaluit – Ottawa

The morning is at leisure to have one last look around your Artic kingdom. Perhaps you will choose to explore the art galleries or museums in the city or maybe you will choose one of the many optional activities that are on offer. In the afternoon you will be transferred to Iqaluit Airport for the return flight to Ottawa, where you will spend the next two nights.

Day 6 Ottawa

Ottawa in the winter is a magical place to be explored and it maybe cold outside but there is still plenty to be enjoyed. Strap on some ice skates and make your way down the worlds largest naturally frozen skating rink, the Rideau canal. Stretching for 4.8 miles, it is bigger than 90 Olympic sized ice rinks. If you need something warm to eat during your skate, try a BeaverTails pastry. These deep fried, cinnamon and sugar, beaver-tail shaped pastries are so yummy.

Day 7 Ottawa

Your winter expedition to Canada’s artic and capital city has come to an end and it is time to make your way back to the airport for your flight home.
