UK Air Passenger Duty changes for children between 12 and under 16

What are the changes to APD?

Canadian Affair welcomes the UK Government changes reducing APD for Children and Youths, making family travel more affordable.

Children (ages 2 to under 12) became APD exempt from 1 May 2015 and Youths (from ages 12 to under 16) will become APD exempt for flights departing from a UK airport from 1 March 2016.

APD tax is applicable to passengers departing from a UK airport (some UK airports are exempt from APD, for example Northern Ireland and the Scottish Highlands and Islands).

Existing bookings

Any Youths on the booking will be APD exempt if they are:

• Travelling on or after 1st March 2016 and departing from a UK airport.
• Over 12 years old on the date of the flight.
• Under 16 years old on the date of the flight.

New Bookings

When you book your flights via Canadian Affair:

1. Via our call centre:
You will not be charged the APD fee for youths (12 to under 16). Therefore there will be no refund to process.

2. Via our website (www.canadianaffair.com):
Our reservation system is currently under development to remove the youth APD fee; until this is completed, you will still be charged the APD fee.
We will amend the costs within your booking and issue you with a new flight confirmation with the removal of youth APD charge and will process a refund or show the new outstanding balance as appropriate.
This will take place within 14 days of your booking. There is no need to contact us and you will receive email confirmation when this is completed.
