The Canadian Rockies
If you want to experience natural beauty on a romantic getaway, then the Canadian Rockies is the perfect place to visit. Lying between the interior plains of Alberta and northern British Columbia, the Canadian Rockies is home to dramatic snow-capped peaks, picturesque lakes and stunning wildlife.
There are so many romantic locations within the Canadian Rockies and a great way to experience them all is to book car hire in Canada. By doing this you can explore all the romantic attractions that the Rockies is home to.
Meghan, the outdoor, travel and adventure writer behind the Meghan Joy Ward blog, said she finds Yoho National Park on the western slopes of the Canadian Rocky Mountains a romantic place to escape to.
“If you're looking for an exceptional mountain getaway, the secluded location of Emerald Lake Lodge in Yoho National Park feels both romantic and adventurous. It's a wonderful experience year-round, but best in summer or fall when you can stroll around the lake then settle into the lodge's dining room for the best meal of your life. Guests take a special shuttle to the property so that, even during high season, the crowds dissipate by dinnertime and the quiet lake is reserved for lodge guests only.”
The Canadian Rockies is the perfect place to kick back and relax on a romantic escape and this is something that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have even done as they went on their honeymoon to the Canadian Rockies.
Other romantic attractions in the Canadian Rockies:
- Banff National Park
- Lake Louise
- Icefields Parkway
- Heart Creek, Alberta

Bowen Island, British Columbia
Bowen Island is a beautiful, forested island that is just off the coast of West Vancouver. A popular way to get to the island is to book a fly drive Canada holiday to Vancouver and to then book a scenic 20-minute floatplane from the city to Bowen Island.
Whilst you are on the island you can enjoy authentic local coastal cuisine such as dark ale-battered fish and chips, seafood chowder and delicious homemade apple crumble. There are also lots of activities you can enjoy and one of the most popular and romantic experiences to try is to take the ferry across the ocean to Horseshoe Bay for a different view of the coastline.
Hannah, the travel writer behind That Adventurer Blog, told us that she found Bowen Island to be a really romantic destination when she visited.
“Bowen Island in BC is under an hour away from the city of Vancouver and is the perfect romantic getaway destination! The island is a short 20-minute ferry ride away from Horseshoe Bay and it's covered in forest, cute cabins, great restaurants, and boutiques.
“If you're planning a weekend getaway then be sure to book a few nights at WildWood Cabins. These cute log cabins have wood-burning fireplaces and a wood-burning sauna that's free for guests! One of my favourite activities is to grab a coffee from The Snug cafe and walk along the harbour or head over to the far side of the island and enjoy the peace and quiet and views at The Cape on Bowen. There's a lighthouse here you can walk out too and from time to time you can spot whales too! For a more challenging hike, head up Mt Gardener for stunning views of The Howe Sound.
“Get pre-dinner drinks at the Copper Spirit Distillery and then head to Barcelona for delicious tapas. Their patatas bravas is always popular!”
