In the area
Tofino’s location on the rugged west coast of Vancouver Island is nothing short of stunning. Here the waves of the Pacific Ocean roll on to vast sandy beaches all with a supporting backdrop of towering mountains covered in mossy temperate rainforests.
With such a pristine natural environment, it's no surprise that wildlife is found around Tofino in abundance so head to the harbour and join a boat tour looking for black bears, gray whales, orcas, sea otters and more. The sheltered waters of Clayoquot Sound are an ideal place to join a guided kayak tour and explore sandy coves and uninhabited islands. Just outside Tofino is the Pacific Rim National Park, a place where you can wander in awe through ancient cedar rainforests only to have your breath taken away by the vast sandy beaches. Even as a smaller, remote destination, Tofino has more than its fair share of excellent yet casual places to eat, where fresh seafood dominates the menus and local artisans work with textile, pottery/clay, sea glass, jewellery, metal, and more to create unique souvenirs inspired by the coast.
