Skagway is a fascinating town with a colourful history, once the base for the huge gold rush beginning in 1897. Its history is preserved in its charming buildings, and you can take a walking tour around many of the interesting sites or drive out to the overgrown ghost town of Dyea for a real feeling of days gone by.
For those feeling energetic there are several beautiful walking trails that leave from town, trekking to waterfalls and alpine lakes, or follow in the footsteps of the gold stampeders on the four day hike along the Chilcoot Trail to the Klondike Gold Fields.
