Day 1-2
Vancouver
Arrive at Vancouver International Airport and transfer independently to your downtown hotel. The next day is free to explore this enchanting coastal city. Be guided by the weather and take a short stroll in Stanley Park, before heading over to Granville Island with its famous market and art galleries. Rainy day activities include Museum of Vancouver and the Vancouver Maritime Museum, both close to Granville Island or simply choose to cosy up in the restaurants and bars of historic Yaletown.
Day 3
North Vancouver
Start the day in Gastown, where Vancouver was first settled and wander through charming cobblestone streets, stopping at artisan coffee shops and see the famous steam clock in action. In the afternoon take the SeaBus over to North Vancouver and explore the Lonsdale Quay market and surrounding Shipyards District with its craft breweries and views back over to Vancouver. As the sun sets, head to Capilano Suspension Bridge & Park, a short bus ride away. Experience the thrill and the magic of the festive season as the park is transformed into a light-filled winter wonderland for Canyon Lights.
Day 4
Tofino
Pick up your hire car in the morning and make the journey to Horseshoe Bay where a ferry will take you over to Vancouver Island. Journey across the stunning mountainous interior of Vancouver Island, pausing along the way at Cathedral Grove for a stroll amongst giant Douglas fir trees, some more than 800 years old. Stop for a late lunch at a craft brewery in Port Alberni before continuing onto Tofino, a small-town set amongst the beaches, rainforest and distant islands, where you will stay for the next 4 nights.
Day 5-7
Tofino
The raw power of the Pacific Ocean puts on a mighty display at Tofino with wind-fuelled waves crashing relentlessly onto the rocky coastline. Storm-watching is a local pastime here between October and March when an average of 10-15 storms roll in each month. Witness the force of nature from the comfort of your ocean facing accommodation or brave the lashing rain with a walk on one the local beaches. During the brief respites in the stormy weather, explore the surrounding area and stroll one of the rainforest trails in nearby Ucluelet.
Day 8
Vancouver
As you journey back over the island, stop at Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park where waterfalls cascade down a rocky gorge in a beautiful forest setting bordered by steep mountain peaks, making this one of the area’s most beautiful parks. Continue to Nanaimo and after lunch, stroll through downtown streets lined with heritage storefronts, art galleries, and boutiques and onto the Harbourfront Walkway to watch the floatplanes come and go. Catch the ferry back to the mainland and marvel as it weaves through the sheltered Gulf Islands.
Day 9
Fly Home
Spend the morning in Steveston, a historic port and salmon canning centre at the mouth of the South Arm of the Fraser River. Explore the Britannia Shipyard National Historic Site, a riverfront collection of historical buildings, including 19th-century canneries, boatyards & residences before enjoying a fresh seafood lunch at Fisherman’s Wharf. Head back to Vancouver International Airport and drop your car off in time for your flight home.
