This holiday explores the highlights of eastern Newfoundland, combining coastal scenery, wildlife and historical sites. The itinerary begins in St. John’s, the provincial capital, known for its harbour, heritage buildings and lively culture. Travel along the Avalon Peninsula to Cape Saint Mary’s Ecological Reserve, home to one of North America’s largest seabird colonies. Head over to the Bonavista Peninsula and visit the historic town of Trinity before continuing north to Twillingate, famous for iceberg sightings and rich fishing history. Included excursions offer opportunities to spot puffins, whales and icebergs before visiting Gander, an important aviation and wartime town.

Day 1-2
St. John’s
Begin your holiday in vibrant St. John’s, Canada’s most easterly city. Explore the colourful streets of Jelly Bean Row, the historic harbourfront and enjoy local cuisine and live music. Drive to Signal Hill for sweeping views of the Atlantic, then continue to Cape Spear, the easternmost point in North America. Museums, coastal walks, and warm hospitality make St. John’s an ideal introduction to the province.
Day 3
Bay Bulls
Travel south for the day to the picturesque fishing village of Bay Bulls, renowned for its rich marine life. Join a guided boat tour to witness vast colonies of puffins nesting on offshore islands, alongside other seabirds and possible whale sightings. Towering cliffs and open ocean scenery create an unforgettable backdrop for this unique wildlife encounter.
Day 4
Cape Saint Mary's
Today’s drive leads to the dramatic Cape Saint Mary’s Ecological Reserve, home to one of the largest seabird colonies in North America. Walk the cliff-top paths to see thousands of gannets, murres, and kittiwakes nesting against a backdrop of crashing waves. The sheer scale of the colony and the rugged beauty of the coastline make this a powerful and memorable highlight of your Newfoundland adventure.
Day 5-6
Trinity
Arrive in the historic town of Trinity with its charming saltbox houses, perfectly located to explore the Bonavista Peninsula. Spend time exploring the town’s heritage sites, artisan shops, and scenic coastal trails. A whale-watching excursion offers the chance to see humpback and minke whales feeding nearby. Trinity’s relaxed pace, rich history, and stunning coastal scenery create one of the most rewarding stops.
Day 7-8
Twillingate
Continue north to Twillingate, known as the “Iceberg Capital of the World”. This rugged coastal town is famed for its dramatic cliffs, historic lighthouses, and rich fishing culture. Enjoy scenic viewpoints and an included boat tour offering up close iceberg viewing between May and June and wildlife sightings such as whales and seabirds the rest of the season.
Day 9
Gander
Drive inland to Gander, a town with a unique place in aviation history. Visit the North Atlantic Aviation Museum where you can learn about Gander’s role in development of transatlantic crossings. Known for its genuine hospitality, Gander offers a peaceful overnight stop and a change of scenery from the coast. The town’s remarkable stories and welcoming atmosphere inspired the musical Come from Away.
Day 10
Terra Nova National Park
Leave Gander behind and discover the sheltered bays, forested trails and tranquil beaches of Terra Nova, perfect for a day spent on gentle walks and wildlife spotting. The park’s blend of coastal and woodland scenery provides a refreshing break on your journey back to St. John’s for your final night.
Day 11
Fly Home
Enjoy last minute sightseeing, souvenir shopping, or a relaxed meal overlooking the harbour. If time allows, make sure to visit Quidi Vidi Village with its traditional Newfoundland architecture and breath-taking geographical features. This final day allows time to reflect on a journey filled with wildlife encounters, dramatic coastlines, and welcoming communities.
