Getting to Jasper

Jasper is served by two international airports. Edmonton is the closest airport to the resort and is a four and a half hour drive or transfer away. You can also fly into Calgary, around a five hire drive or transfer away. Calgary could be a great choice if you'd like to combine your Jasper ski holiday with a bit of sightseeing. The drive along the Icefields Parkway between Banff and Jasper is one of the most stunning in the world.

Jasper Marmot offers some pretty impressive mountain stats over 1,720 acres of ski area. Elevation is 3,000ft (914m) with a vertical drop 8,570ft-5570ft (2,612m- 1,698m). The mid-mountain elevation is 6,494ft (1,980m). The Jasper ski resort boasts Canada's highest base elevation at 5,570ft (1,698m). The longest run is 5.6km. Plus, Marmot Basin has an impressive lift system, with 7 lifts including 3 high-speed quads

Runs for all levels

Jasper boasts the cold, dry Alberta snow that the Rockies are famous for. It's a long ski season from November to May and Marmot Basin averages 4m of snow annually. There is a great spread of runs for all abilities, making the resort a family-friendly option:

Staying in Jasper

The town of Jasper is around a 25-minute shuttle bus from the ski resort and offers shops, restaurants and plenty of accommodation. Our favourite pick is the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, just across the river from the town. The plush resort offers 442 luxurious rooms in cedar chalets and original log cabins. It is where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are rumoured to have honeymooned. In the town itself, Tonquin Inn and Lobstick Lodge are two favourites.

Staying outside of Jasper

Tekarra Lodge is located just outside the Jasper Townsite, that little bit closer to the ski resort. It nestles in the midst of the tall pines of Jasper National Park, boasting fabulous views. Maligne Lodge is another comfortable favourite which is right at the end of Jasper's high street. It's the opposite end of town to the majority of Jasper's hotels and again is a few minutes closer to the ski resort.

Your lift pass is an essential for your ski holiday in Jasper - you can't access the slopes without it! So buy in advance to save money on in-resort fees and save hassle once you arrive in Jasper. Ski lessons

Marmot Basin boasts an excellent ski school, but it's not just for beginners! A wide range of skill levels could benefit from booking a day or two of ski lessons. The lessons help you to orientate yourself around the Jasper ski resort and build your confidence. The instructors will explain all the runs and ski areas to you as well as take you to hidden parts of the mountain. You also enjoy priority lift boarding when you are with an instructor.

Equipment hire

Maligne Canyon Ice Walk

During your Jasper ski holiday you can enjoy a fascinating 3-hour tour through the deepest canyon in Jasper National Park. Walk along the frozen floor of the canyon and pause for photos of the breathtaking Angel and Queen of Maligne icefalls. With towering ice pinnacles and glittering icicles, it's a whole different world down in the canyon - particularly in the moonlight. Opening and closing dates

Marmot Basin has a long ski season. Each year, the Jasper ski resort opens in early November and stays open until early May. The opening and closing dates vary each year depending on the weather and snowfall, so double check before you start planning your holiday. For 2018/2019, the season is from 16th November to 3rd May. Last season the dates were 10th November to 6th May.

When to go

Any time is a good time to go on a skiing holiday in Jasper! With a 6-month ski season, each month brings something different. April and May boast sunshine and warmer weather, but February and March are two of our favourite months to visit in. They both have great snowfall accumulation, winter is in full swing and there are lots of events happening. You might also find deals and discounts in February as well as new equipment demo days!

Average snowfall

Like many Alberta ski resorts, Marmot Basin doesn't get a huge amount of snow per year. On average, the Jasper ski resort gets around 4m of snow annually. (Compare that to the likes of Whistler, which gets an average of 11.7m!) However, the conditions in Jasper are cold and dry, meaning the snow quality is superb. The snow stays good for days after a snowfall and is considered to be the fine, champagne powder that the Rockies are famous for.

Unmissable events

As a true mountain town, Jasper embraces the winter season with an impressive roster of events. Almost the entire month of January, from 10th - 27th, is known as Jasper in January. The festival boasts three weeks of fat bike racing, dog sledding, skating, skiing and more. Between 22nd and 24th February, Jasper turns delicious with the Devour! The Canadian Rockies Food Film Festival is where cinema meets indulgent food and wine.
