Day 2 Toronto – Niagara Falls – VIA Rail
An early start for your full day tour to Niagara Falls, one of Canada’s most spectacular sights. You will have plenty of time to take photographs of the falls with their powder puff covering of ice and snow from the freezing spray. Take a walk behind the thundering water in the ‘Tunnels behind the Falls’ and enjoy a hearty meal in the Fallsview restaurant with fantastic views of the falls. The day continues with a journey along the Niagara escarpment to the historic town of Niagara-on-the-Lake, before returning to Toronto. Depart this evening on VIA Rails Canadian Service.
Day 3-5 VIA Rail Toronto to Jasper
Spend a relaxing couple of days enjoying the views of Central Canada as you travel across the country to the Rocky Mountains on VIA Rails Canadian train. Passing through Northern Ontario, Manitoba and Saskatchewan, spend some time in the observation car with 360 degree views of the surrounding countryside.
Day 6 Jasper
Step off the train into the Rocky Mountain playground of Jasper for 3 nights. Transfer independently to your hotel before taking in the sights of this alpine town. Set in the heart of Jasper National Park, the largest national park in Canada, there is so much to do you may have to come back again.
Day 7 Jasper
Take a fascinating 3-hour tour through the deepest canyon in Jasper National Park while walking on the frozen floor of the canyon and stopping for photos of the Queen of Maligne and Angel Icefalls. It’s a whole different world down here, especially in the moonlight. Transfers, boots, cleats and headlamp (for the evening tour) are provided. Free pick-up service from accommodation in Jasper.
Day 8 Jasper
Your final day in the Rocky Mountains and you have only scratched the surface. With so much snow about it is best to take advantage, strap on a pair of cross country skis and take a tranquil tour of one of the many groomed cross country trails the cross the national park. If you prefer to stay on your own two feet , you can hike along many of the trails in the park. We recommend the Athabasca river trail that takes you to the beautiful Lac Beauvert.
Day 9 VIA Rail Jasper to Vancouver
Time to leave the Rocky Mountains and Jasper behind as you climb back on board the VIA Rail train bound for Vancouver. Spend the night on-board as you travel down through British Columbia to your coastal destination.
Day 10 -13 Vancouver
Arriving into Vancouver, make you way independently to your hotel. You can now enjoy the rest of the day exploring the delights of Vancouver and the surrounding area. If you wish to break yourself in gently after all the fun in Jasper, try the Vancouver Lookout for 360 degree panoramic views of the city and the North shore mountains, this is especially good after a fresh dusting of snow. There are also plenty of micro breweries within the city, many of which offer tours where you can try different brews.
Day 11 Vancouver
If you want to get back into the adventure saddle, head up to Grouse Mountain on the North shore of the city. Here you will find plenty of winter fun. Snowshoe across the many trails, hire a pair of skis and try a runs down the piste but our favourite is the zip line course. This five line course gives you a heart pumping tour across the peaks of Grouse and Dam Mountains, along with some amazing views of Vancouver but look fast because it goes by fast.
Day 12 Vancouver
Why not hire a car for a day and take the short 90 minute drive up the Sea to Sky highway to the wonderful resort of Whistler. Make sure you stop at the Sea-to-Sky gondola on the way up, the views to the fjord below can be out of this world, even in the Winter. Spend the day exploring the pedestrian friendly village or take a ride in the peak 2 peak gondola between Whistler and Blackcomb Mountain.
