Day 1 - 3 Vancouver
Upon arrival in Vancouver collect your Intermediate car hire from Vancouver Airport and make your way downtown. A trolley tour of Vancouver’s downtown is a great way to see the city whilst getting your bearings. Why not climb the Vancouver Lookout for a view of the downtown, the Strait of Georgia and the Coast Mountains? Vancouver’s location means you are not far away from getting away from the downtown on a short trip to Capilano Suspension Bridge and Park. Take one of the complimentary shuttle’s services from downtown to the Park where you can climb into the treetops of one of the many tree top walks and marvel upon the sheer beauty of this natural playground. Day 4 Vancouver to Victoria
Today’s journey takes you from Vancouver to the provincial capital of Victoria. Board BC Ferries for the 90-minute journey across the Strait of Georgia, keep an eye out for the wildlife that frequent these waters. Victoria’s Inner Harbour is bustling with activity day long. From the water taxis ferrying people from one point to another as well as the seaplanes landing and taking off throughout the day, this is the heart of Victoria Downtown. Overnight Victoria
Day 5 Victoria
Known as the Garden City, Victoria is in full bloom throughout Spring and Summer. Butchart Gardens is world renowned for 55acres of year-round spectacular floral displays as well as themed gardens. Enjoy an afternoon tea overlooking the Italian Gardens prior to heading back to the Downtown to perhaps enjoy a whale watching excursion. With three Resident Pods of Orca off the coast of Victoria the chances of viewing Orca in their natural habitat is high. Overnight Victoria
Day 6 Victoria to Tofino
Today enjoy the leisurely drive weaving through the island up to Tofino. The 5-hour drive will see you pass through Nanaimo, Parksville, Qualicum Beach and Port Alberni. Upon arrival in Tofino take in the sheer beauty of nature at its finest. Crashing waves collide into the rugged coast dotted with beautiful forest as well as plenty of driftwood along the beaches here. Overnight Tofino.
Day 7 Tofino
Wildlife is abundance in the waters surrounding Tofino take advantage of this by embarking on a bear or whale watching excursion and learn more about Tofino’s wildlife. For the more adventurous take to the waters and hit the waves by surfboard. Some of the best surfing can be found along this coastline. Overnight Tofino.
Day 8 Tofino to Vancouver
Today head back to British Columbia’s mainland as you head back to Nanaimo where you will pick up the ferry for the journey to Horseshoe Bay. Rich in culture and history Vancouver offers plenty to see and do. Explore downtown’s Stanley Park, with its old growth cedar forests surrounded by sea views and sandy beaches then hop on a water taxi to Granville Island Market. Explore Vancouver’s popular neighbourhoods of West End, Gastown, Yaletown and Chinatown. Overnight Vancouver
Day 9 Embark Grand Princess Cruise
Head down to Vancouver’s Canada Place to board your Princess cruise. And say farewell to downtown as you set sail on your Alaskan Adventure.
Day 10 At Sea
The Inside Passage is famed for its glacier-carved fjords and pristine forested shores. Whales, dolphins and other marine life as well as bald eagles and tufted puffins can be seen from the decks of your ship. Cascading waterfalls and majestic snow-capped mountains will have you captured at every turn.
Day 11 Ketchikan
Be captivated by Ketchikan’s thriving native culture, home to the world’s oldest collection of totem poles at Totem Heritage Centre as well as three south eastern groups, the Haida, Tlingit and Tsimshian. Take in the dramatic beauty of Misty Fjords National Monument encompassing 2 million acres of granite cliffs, 1,000-foot waterfalls and crystalline lakes.
Day 12 Juneau
Welcome to the state capital Juneau surrounded by beautiful glaciers and stunning views of mountains and waterways. View the Mendenhall Glacier at 12miles long, half a mile wide and 200-1,800 feet deep. Juneau offers opportunities for whale watching, glacier flightseeing as well as dog sledding.
Day 13 Skagway
Skagway was the gateway to the gold fields for those who flocked north in search of riches. The White Pass route through the Coast Mountains as well as the Chilkoot Trail were used by countless stampeders and many would perish in their journey for gold. Today Skagway reflects that gold rush era in Broadway where false fronts have been attached to buildings and saloons house locals dressed up in period costumes to recreate the gold rush buzz. Today you can journey the White Pass on the White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad linking Skagway with Yukon, Canada as well as panning for gold at the camps to experience what life was like during the boom-town days.
Day 14 Glacier Bay
Princess cruises are one of a select few cruise lines permitted to journey the waters of Glacier Bay. This national park and reserve boasts some of the world’s most spectacular tidewater glaciers. Glacier Bay National Park are part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Park Rangers will join the ship to share their knowledge and help identify the areas abundant wildlife and glaciers.
Day 15 College Fjord (Scenic Cruising)
Named by the college professors who found College Fjord, this area features snow-capped mountains and tidewater glaciers. Here you’ll hear the rumble of the ice moving prior to seeing enormous slices of ice calve away into the sea as it makes a thunderous splash. As well as witnessing the ice calving you may also get the chance to see one of the area’s humpback whales feeding in the fjord.
Day 16 Alaska Railroad Whittier to Anchorage
Approximately 65 miles southeast of Anchorage, Whittier lies at the base of the Chugach Mountains bordering Passage Canal. Established in World War II as a port for cargo and troops Whittier remained activated until 1960. Today Whittier’s community relies on the fishing industry as well as the increasing trade in tourism. After disembarking the cruise explore the surrounding area of Whittier prior to boarding the Alaska Railroad. The first 12 miles of this journey will take you from Whittier to Portage, through two long tunnels. Once in Portage the train tracks join the mainline taking you on to Anchorage covering 50 miles along the rocky bank of the Turnagain. Overnight Anchorage.
Day 17 End of tour
