Take a full day to explore Cape Bonavista and its small communities such as Port Rexton, Bonavista and more. From historic sites such as the St. Paul’s Anglican Church to the Trinity Museum, the many hiking and walking trails, whale watching and boat tours to Cape Bonavista Lighthouse, there is so much to see and to explore in this captivating region.

Day 5 Trinity to Twillingate

Travel through Terra Nova National Park, this small but spectacular park has plenty of secluded bays to explore and hiking trails that emerge into spectacular viewpoints. We recommend leaving the highway at Gambo’s Point and taking the scenic coastal route which brings you to Twillingate.

Day 6 Twillingate

Embark on a two-hour guided tour in search of icebergs and whales on a true Newfoundland adventure. Explore Iceberg Alley and marvel at 12,000-year-old Greenland icebergs on their epic journey from the Arctic Circle to Newfoundland and beyond. Hear the ice crack under the Newfoundland sun, or perhaps observe majestic humpback whales as they feed in Twillingate’s coastal waters. Note that this cruise operates seasonally. Spend the rest of your day exploring Twillingate, you may choose to relax and unwind along the sandy shores of Northside Beach, walk some of the scenic coastal trails, or perhaps browse local craft shops and galleries to find unique souvenirs and handmade treasures.

Journey through the interior of Newfoundland, stopping by the village of South Brook, with its multi-coloured houses adorning the steep hillsides and the town of Deer Lake with its fine sandy beach. Pass through the gates of Grose Morne National Park to reach the coast and your overnight destination, Rocky Harbour.

Day 8 Rocky Harbour to L’Anse au Clair

Head north along the coast with spectacular mountains on one side of the road and the Gulf of St. Lawrence on the other. A short ferry ride across will bring you to Labrador, from the water admire the untamed beauty of the shoreline that is continuously carved by the wild Atlantic Ocean.

Day 9 L’Anse au Clair

The shores of Labrador are some of the most untamed, open-water shorelines in North America and was once a centre for whaling in the 19th century. We recommend heading up the coast to Red Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that preserves some of the buildings and equipment essential to the European whaling industry.

Day 10 L'anse au Claire to St Anthony

Take the ferry over the Gulf of St. Lawrence and back to the island of Newfoundland. Head to the small village of St. Anthony to explore the local sites such as the Grenfell Historic Buildings and take a stroll on the waterfront Bottom Brok Trail.

On the northernmost tip of the islands, L’Anse aux Meadows is the only known site established by Vikings in North America. On your way back to St. Anthony, stop at one of the small galleries or cafes such as the Dark Tickle Company. On the outskirts of the village is the Fishing Point Municipal Park where you can enjoy spectacular ocean views. The park is famous for iceberg watching into the early summer and its iconic square lighthouse overlooking the waters.

Day 12 St Anthony to Cow Head

Returning south along the coast, make a stop at Port aux Choix to explore one of North America’s most fascinating archaeological finds amid a rugged coastline of unique limestone barrens, forests, and bays. Visit ancient burial sites, settlements and view original artifacts, from slate spears to harpoons. Continue onwards towards Grose Morne National Park admiring the spectacular scenery once again but this time from a different perspective.
