Québec City
On arrival to Québec International Airport, transfer independently to your hotel. The next day you are free to explore the stunning Old Québec, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the only fortified city north of Mexico. Stroll the cobblestone streets and enjoy sites such as the Château Frontenac, the worlds most photographed hotel, and Basilica Cathedral Notre-Dame de Québec.
Montréal
Board VIA Rail for the three-hour journey to Montréal, a cosmopolitan city with beautiful architecture, delicious food, and relaxing outdoor areas. On your full day in the city be sure to visit the Notre Dame Basilica, located in the Old Town, it is one of Montréal’s most iconic landmarks. Talking of icons of Montréal, no visit is complete without enjoying a Montréal Smoked Meat sandwich, smoky and peppery brisket typically served on rye bread this sandwich has placed the city on world food map!
Ottawa
Hop back onboard VIA Rail, this time it’s a short two-hour journey to Ottawa, Canada’s capital city. Containing 7 of the country’s national museums this is the place to immerse yourself in Canadian culture and history. Take a stroll or a boat tour down Rideau Canal before finding an outdoor patio to sit back, relax with a drink and some delicious food and bask in the ambiance of this laid-back city.
Kingston
It’s time to ride the rails again to Kingston, gateway to the stunning 1000 Islands National Park. To maximise your day Canadian Affair will book you on to an early train giving you plenty of time to join the Heart of the Islands Cruise. Departing from downtown Kingston you will cruise into the heart of the Admiralty Islands, home to the highest concentration of small cottage islands and picturesque channels in the 1000 Islands. The Heart of the Islands Cruise is the most in-depth cruise in the 1000 Islands and is the perfect way to explore the scenery that has made the region famous throughout the world.
Toronto
It’s time to travel on board VIA Rail for one last journey, this time heading to Toronto. The city is a jewel in eastern Canada’s crown as it is beautifully located on the shores of Lake Ontario and is one of the world’s most vibrant. Travel up the iconic CN Tower, be spoilt for choice in the foodie’s heaven that is St Lawrence Market and stroll the Art Gallery of Ontario, home to an impressive 95,000 pieces of artwork from Canada and the rest of the world.
Day trip to Niagara Falls
Join a guided group tour to the iconic Niagara Falls. See the Upper Rapids and Niagara Horseshoe Falls before an enchanting cruise aboard The Niagara City Cruise Boat. After this unforgettable cruise, you will then enjoy a buffet lunch with a view of the majestic Niagara Falls at the Fallsview Restaurant atop the Sheraton Hotel. Following lunch, embark on a journey through the scenic Niagara Parkway with stops at Floral Clock, Botanical Gardens, Niagara Gorge, and free time in the historic quaint town of Niagara-on-the-Lake.
Honey Harbour
Pick up your motorhome and after having stocked up on groceries, it’s time for adventures in the Canadian Wilderness. Your first destination is Honey Harbour, a picturesque fishing community located on Georgian Bay, where you can hike the pine and maple forest trails and along sandy shores. Many of the local campgrounds offer kayak rental to allow you to enjoy time paddling on the calm waters.
Haliburton
Head east to the Haliburton Highlands, an outdoor wonderland of rivers, lakes, and woodlands. We recommend paying a visit to the Haliburton Forest and Wild Life reserve to enjoy beautiful views of the Haliburton Forest as you traverse the world’s longest canopy boardwalk, 10–20 metres above the ground. The reserve is also home to the Wolf Centre where visitors get a unique educational experience about wolf behaviour and wolf ecology.
Algonquin Provincial Park
Head North-east to Algonquin Provincial Park, a vast area of maple hills, rocky ridges, and thousands of lakes and home to moose, black bears, and common loons (the provincial bird of Ontario!). One of the best ways to explore the park is by canoe which you can hire from one of the many outfitters dotted around the park. Or why not join a guided canoe tour? The local guides have wealth of local of knowledge of the local flora and fauna to help you get the most from your experience.
Pembroke
Situated on the banks of the Ottawa River, Pembroke is the gateway to many outdoor adventures. The Ottawa Valley is known as the Whitewater Capital of Canada and has rafting experiences for people of all skill levels. Open 4 mornings a week in the summer season, the Pembroke Farmers’ Market is the place to buy food and other products directly from local producers.
Mont Tremblant National Park
Head east to Mont Tremblant National Park, an oasis of peace where protected lakes, rivers and forests are waiting to be discovered. So go on a hike, hire a kayak or if you are feeling adventurous book on a guided Via Ferrata experience. Clipped into a steel cable that runs the length of the cliff, you will cross a challenging face with built-in steps, handles, beams, and various types of bridges while overlooking the meandering Diable River far below.
Fly Home
Your Rail and Motorhome adventures in Eastern Canada have come to end. It’s only a short drive to Montréal to drop off the motorhome before transferring independently to Montréal International Airport for your flight home.
