Whitehorse
On arrival to Whitehorse International Airport, transfer independently to your hotel.
Carmacks
Pick up your motorhome and after having stocked up on groceries, it’s time to leave the city behind for the great outdoors. Heading north on the Klondike Highway, your first stop should be at Braeburn Lodge. Why? Cinnamon buns. Not just any cinnamon buns. THE cinnamon buns. Massive. Delicious. Legendary. Your destination is Carmacks where you can learn about the Northern Tutchone culture at the Tagé Cho Hudän Interpretive Centre and enjoy views of the Yukon River along the riverfront boardwalk.
Mayo
Keep on the adventure at Five Finger Rapids, where you can see the notorious stretch of river that presented a major obstacle not only for the rafts of the stampeders but also the sternwheelers that were to follow. It's only a short hike leads down to the river. In Pelly Crossing visit the Selkirk First Nation Cultural Centre at Big Jonathan House and for lovers of all things quirky, Moose Creek Lodge is a must.
Dawson City
Head towards Dawson City, the heart of the Klondike Gold Rush and an incredible community that has preserved its past. Take three full days to explore this authentic gold rush town, partake in First Nations cultural experiences and head out to the Tombstone Territorial Park, a unique wilderness of rugged peaks, permafrost landforms and abundant wildlife.
Tok
A free ferry across the Yukon River connects to the Top of the World Highway, a mostly gravel road that sits atop the ridgeline with views that go forever. Make sure you have your passports out as you cross the border into Alaska. Just over the border is the hamlet of Chicken, so named because of the abundant Ptarmigan in the region (but “Ptarmigan” was too hard to spell—true story). Chicken is a unique and quirky community, and if you’re in the market for trinkets or decor with a chicken theme, then this is your town. Continue onto Tok.
Destruction Bay
Head back towards Canada and after another border crossing you will arrive at Beaver Creek - Canada’s most westerly community/ Continue following the historic Alaska Highway alongside the spectacular front ranges of the St Elias Mountains. Once called “the biggest and hardest job since the Panama Canal” the Alaska Highway was built to link the US Mainland with Alaska and improve strategic war efforts during World War II. Today it’s one of the most iconic drives in the world. In Burwash Landing, be sure to visit the Kluane Museum of Natural History before continuing on to Destruction Bay.
Haines Junction
This stretch of highway hugs the shores of Kluane Lake, which offers plenty of opportunities for scenic vistas. At the Tachal Dhal Visitor Information Centre you can pick up information on hiking trails and view Dhal sheep clinging to the mountainside. The ruins of Silver City - a former trading post, roadhouse and Northwest Mounted Police barracks - make for some great photo ops. You’ll end your day at the picture-postcard village of Haines Junction where you will have two full days to explore Kluane National Park and join the many guided adventures on offer.
Whitehorse
It's only a short drive to Whitehorse which gives you plenty of time to explore the city, its wildlife preserve and the Takhini Hot Springs. Return your motorhome and spend one night in a hotel.
Fly home
Today your epic Yukon adventure comes to an end and you check in for your flights home.
