Enjoy breath-taking and varied scenery as you travel through the river canyons and lush farmland of the Pemberton Valley, the desert-like conditions of the Fraser Canyon, to the rolling hills and vast ranchlands of the Cariboo Plateau.

Rocky Mountaineer to Jasper
Back on board Rocky Mountaineer, you will continue eastwards towards the majestic Canadian Rockies. Travelling initially through the forests of British Columbia you will begin to see the mountains rise steeply above you. The pinnacle is Mount Robson, which at 3,954 metres is the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies.

Jasper

We recommend you book an excursion to nearby Maligne Lake and cruise to Spirit Island, an iconic vista of the Canadian Rockies with distant jagged mountains providing the perfect backdrop. On the outskirts of Jasper and easily reached by local transport are lakes such as Pyramid Lake, where you can hire a canoe, and Lake Annette, with its enticing beach. In the evening take a stroll in downtown Jasper and take your pick from the many different restaurants, bistros, and bars on offer. Look out for wildlife, Jasper is known for the herd of Elk that graze on the outskirts of town.

After a photo stop at Athabasca Falls, you will stop at the Columbia Icefield, one of the largest accumulations of ice south of the Arctic Circle and one of the most accessible icefields in North America. Here you will ride on an Ice Explorer to the middle of the Athabasca Glacier and learn about its geological features before stepping out on to the Glacier Skywalk for unobstructed views of the Sunwapta Valley. Lunch is provided at the Columbia Icefield Glacier Discovery Centre. Afterwards, a brief stop will be made at Bow Lake before arriving in Banff in the afternoon.
