North Vancouver
Arrive at Vancouver International Airport where a transfer will be waiting to take you to your hotel in North Vancouver. Located just over the Burrard Inlet, North Vancouver is a vibrant community with easy access to the soaring Coastal Mountains and majestic Pacific Rainforest. The next day head to Capilano Suspension Bridge Park, where you can brave the iconic 137-metre swaying footbridge and explore the thrilling Cliffwalk path and catch the Skyride Gondola to the summit of Grouse Mountain for breath-taking panoramic views of Vancouver, wildlife encounters, and the entertaining lumberjack show. Conclude your day with an evening at Lonsdale Quay, a vibrant waterfront hub where you can browse the bustling public market, dine on local cuisine, and enjoy a spectacular sunset over the downtown skyline across the harbour.
Vancouver
Hop on the SeaBus which takes just 12 minutes to get to Downtown Vancouver and take the day to explore the city. Take a stroll round Stanley Park to marvel at the historic totem poles at Brockton Point and look out at the legendary Siwash Rock rising from the sea. Then head over to Granville Island to discover a place of art and culture and the famous Granville Island Market to enjoy a freshly made lunch prepared by renowned culinary artisans. End your exploration in Gastown, where you can stroll along cobblestone streets, visit a craft brewery and watch the famous Steam Clock whistle. From here the SeaBus back to North Vancouver is only a couple of minutes away.
Maple Leaf Adventures
A transfer will take you back to Vancouver International Airport for your flight to Bella Bella. This scenic flight offers breathtaking, bird's-eye views of British Columbia's rugged coastline, where deep blue fjords carve into dense, emerald-green temperate rainforests. On arrival enjoy a local Heiltsuk territorial welcome before boarding MV Cascadia, your home for the next few days and departing Bella Bella, cruising through islands to a protected conservancy in beautiful natural fjords where the boat will moor for the night.
*Note that expeditions with Maple Leaf Adventures do not follow a strict itinerary, choosing instead to cruise where the conditions are best on any given day. The following is an example itinerary.
Maple Leaf Adventures
Lookout for whales as you cruise through the fjords stopping at the estuaries where grizzly bears congregate as salmon pause before heading up the river channels. As you move on to smaller boats, look out for bears as you learn about their lifecycle and the habitat that sustains them. In the afternoon, step onshore and walk in the coastal rainforest to experience this magical ecosystem up close.
Maple Leaf Adventures
Spend the day cruising Dean Channel Fjord, a spectacular, deeply carved glacial fjord stretching over 100km inland through the rugged Coast Mountains and the Great Bear Rainforest. Stop at historic sites and scenic waterfalls, kayak the tranquil coves all whilst looking out for the local wildlife.
Maple Leaf Adventures
After another hearty breakfast, enjoy a morning kayak on waters calmed by the surrounding islands. Visit a scenic inlet to soak in natural hot springs right next to the calming sound of the ocean before exploring the waterways of the Quatlena River system. This is an ideal place to come ashore and so your guides will take you on an interpretive walk of the coastal rainforest, looking for signs of wildlife and showing you the plants used for medicine by the local indigenous peoples for centuries.
Maple Leaf Adventures
Cruise across the Fitzhugh Sound, watching for humpback whales as you go and enter the realm of the Great Bear Rainforest’s outer islands. Leave the MV Cascadia behind as you embark on a small boat exploration of the many islands in Nalu Passage. Later in the day you’ll explore the Goose Group of islands and join shore trips to tread in the pristine beaches of these remote islands, exploring the fascinating intertidal life of the outer shores and watching for sea otters.
Maple Leaf Adventures
Your final day with Maple Leaf Adventures begins with a morning kayaking among the pretty Goose Group islands, again watching for sea otters. Cruise back to Bella Bella where a Heiltsuk guide will welcome you back to the territory and invite you to visit the spectacular big house. You will be transferred back to Bella Bella in time for a flight back to Vancouver. On arrival pick up a hire car and head up to Squamish on the Sea-to-Sky Highway. This scenic route is wonderful to travel on, with the mountains and the ocean basking in the early evening glow.
Squamish
Start your day with a visit to Squamish Canyon, an elevated walk through BC's coastal rainforest, where towering trees and rugged gorge lead to the glacier fed Mamquam Falls. Stop by Shannon Falls, British Columbia's third-highest waterfall, plunging 335 meters down a series of granite cliffs before having lunch in downtown Squamish and paying a visit to the Railway Museum of BC which showcases the locomotives that helped shape the province. Continue up the Sea-to-Sky Highway to Whistler, stopping at the lakes, lookouts and waterfalls along the way.
Whistler
Start the day early and join an excursion searching for the black bears that reside on Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains. It's estimated about 50 black bears make their home in the forests and mountains surrounding Whistler and they have adapted to feeding, mating, and hibernating within ski area habitats. The next day and a half you are free to explore Whistler, a vibrant year-round resort nestled amongst the Pacific Coastal mountains so stroll the pedestrian downtown, which is home to fabulous restaurants and bars, take the gondola up Whistler Mountain to enjoy breath-taking views and canoe the cool waters of Alta Lake.
Fly Home
Head back down the Sea-to-Sky Highway, once again enjoying the spectacular views of Howe Sound and the Coastal Mountains. As you get closer to Vancouver, stop at Cypress Lookout for panoramic views over Vancouver and the ocean and then head down to West Vancouver for lunch and a stroll on the Seawalk Trail. Finally, head back to Vancouver International Airport to drop off your hire car in time for your flight home.
