Calgary
Arrive in Calgary and transfer independently to your downtown hotel. Rooted in Western heritage Calgary is home to the iconic Calgary Stampede and is the gateway to the Canadian Rockies. Calgary offers cuisine from all over the world including the renowned Alberta steak and delicious locally sourced food. Explore the many breweries that have popped up over the city as you introduce yourself to the province.

Drumheller
Today, pick up your car from downtown Calgary and head east to Drumheller, the ‘Dinosaur Capital of the World’. This is a must-see destination when exploring the Canadian Badlands and discovering the prehistoric life that wandered the land. A visit to the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology is included, allowing you to learn of the diversity of life on Earth, from the tiniest grain of pollen to the mightiest dinosaur. The world-renowned museum and research facility is in the rugged Alberta Badlands, home to some of the richest deposits of dinosaur fossils in the world.

Banff
As you leave Drumheller take the scenic route via Dinosaur Provincial Park to explore the heart of the Alberta’s Badlands, containing some of the most important fossil discoveries ever made from the ‘Age of Reptiles’, with roughly 35 species of dinosaur. As Canada’s first National Park, Banff is steeped in First Nations history and alpine culture. Banff’s human history dates back more than 10,000 years, learn of the Indigenous Peoples who have had a presence in these mountains for thousands of years at the Buffalo Nations Luxton Museum before heading to the world-famous Fairmont Banff Springs to learn how the Canadian Pacific Railway founded this hotel in 1888, to help bolster tourism and fund the completion of the railroad. Take a visit to the Cave and Basin National Historic Site to learn how these hot springs resulted in the creation of Canada’s first national park. A tour of the town of Banff is included with highlights including Bow Falls, Surprise Corner and the magnificent Lake Minnewanka, amongst others.

Icefields Parkway
Today you head up one of Alberta’s most scenic drives, the Icefields Parkway to the unique property of Glacier View Lodge. Offering unrivalled views of neighbouring glaciers and snowy peaks this hotel is like no other. Enjoy complimentary cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at the welcome reception with expansive views of the Athabasca Glacier before heading to the Columbia Icefield Skywalk for an evening guided tour.

Jasper
This morning head up on to the icefield to explore North America’s most visited glacier. Although it has receded over the last 125 years, the glacier still covers approximately 6sq km and at its thickest measures 300m. The Columbia Icefield is enormous and draped over the Continental Divide on a high alpine plateau. After your visit up on to the glacier, continue your journey north towards the townsite of Jasper. We recommend a stop enroute at the Athabasca Falls. The falls have cut into the limestone of the basin, creating features like potholes and a short canyon. Several platforms and walkways mean you can safely view and photograph these powerful falls. The townsite of Jasper is defined by its raw beauty. Jasper National Park is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Dark Sky Preserve, so is the perfect place to explore more of the province’s natural wonders. Included is the Wildlife Discovery Tour, where your local guide will reveal some of Jasper’s hidden gems and share their knowledge of the history, geology and ecology of the area.

Grande Prairie
Grande Prairie combines art and culture with the rugged wilderness of the Peace Region. Explore fossil-filled Pipestone Creek, next to Drumheller, this is the second largest deposit of dinosaur bones in Alberta. The land here was a meeting place for the those who travelled from Lake Saskatoon on the trail to Jasper. The world-class research facility that is the Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum is located just 24km west of Grande Prairie, close to the Pipestone Creek Bonebed. The museum has a permanent collection that focuses on the Pipestone Creek Bonebed but also includes other significant findings. Special programs here include Night at the Museum activities, the Secrets of the Wapiti River Float and the Palaeologist for a Day Guided Excavation.

Slave Lake
The Slave Lake Region is a natural playground and stretches out around the second largest lake in Alberta, Lesser Slave Lake, featuring white sand beaches and endless trails to explore. The area is steeped in Pioneer and First Nations history. A trading post was established here for the North West Company before the Hudson Bay Company established a rival post to control the fur trade. Treaty 8 was signed on the banks of the lake in 1899, with one signatory being the Sawridge First Nation who were part of the Slave Lake community.

Métis Crossing Cultural Experience
After arriving at the Lodge at Métis Crossing, explore the lodge and amenities on offer. The expansive property invites guests to walk the grounds or venture out on some of the over 10km of hiking trails. Cuisine is a huge part of the experience here, made with traditionally sourced ingredients carefully prepared, and served in dining areas with stunning views of nature. Overnight in a Sky Watching Dome at Métis Crossing. With a transparent ceiling, learn how the Métis people used the stars and sky to navigate, and how the sky was used as a clock, calendar and provided critical instructions for understanding when to plant, hunt and work the land.

Métis Crossing Cultural Experience
After breakfast begin your adventure as you set out to discover the beauty of the Métis history and their contributions to Canadian culture. First, embark on a guided tour of Visions, Hopes and Dreams at Métis Crossing Wildlife Park to view heritage species such as rare white bison, wood bison and the unique Percheron horses. After lunch, you are led on a guided tour of a traditional Métis river lot farm as they existed for generations, exploring their seasonal practices, art and stories. Finally, be amazed by a revealing exploration of the cultural significance of life on the land and traditional Métis way of life.

Edmonton
As you head to your final stop on this tour of Alberta’s land, ensure to stop at Elk Island National Park. See the rolling hills and glassy lakes of this UNESCO designated Biosphere Reserve just 35 minutes outside of Edmonton. Look for herds of bison, elk or one of more than 250 bird species that call this place home. Edmonton itself offers a diverse arts and culture scene amid the vast rolling prairies of Alberta. Included during your stay here is a visit to Fort Edmonton, nestled on the river valley on 158 acres of wooded parkland. Fort Edmonton Park takes you on an iconic journey through the city’s vibrant history. The Indigenous Peoples Experience occupies 30,000 square feet and teaches visitors about First Nations and Métis peoples, who will recount their history in their voice.

Fly Home
Spend the morning enjoying the sights of Edmonton prior to heading to the airport to drop your car and board your flight home.
